Bangladesh invoice basics

Create the right invoice

Use this page to prepare a Bangladesh invoice that gives the client a clear amount due and keeps the supplier's tax details in order. For VAT-registered suppliers, the key document is the VAT-6.3 tax invoice for each taxable supply. The invoice should identify the supplier, buyer where required, goods or services, VAT-exclusive value, VAT rate, VAT amount, and total payable.

Bangladesh uses value added tax under the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012. The standard VAT rate is 15% for taxable imports and taxable supplies unless a special rate, zero-rating, or exemption applies. Exports are taxed at 0% according to NBR's VAT FAQ. Use the correct VAT treatment for the supply instead of treating every invoice as a standard domestic sale.

Add the required details

A Bangladesh VAT invoice should include the issue date and time, supplier name, supplier address, supplier Business Identification Number, description and quantity, supply date and time, VAT-exclusive value, VAT rate, VAT payable, and total value plus VAT. The Business Identification Number is the tax-registration identifier shown on the VAT registration certificate or turnover tax certificate.

Buyer details require extra care. Buyer name, address, and Business Identification Number are required when the value of the supply exceeds Taka 25,000. The Act states that input tax credit is not admissible if those buyer details are omitted where required. For high-value client invoices, collect the buyer BIN before finalizing the invoice.

Avoid Bangladesh invoice errors

Invoice numbering is a common mistake because Bangladesh VAT invoices must be serially numbered by fiscal year. A registered person supplying from more than one place must use separate serially numbered invoices for each place, with that place name, address, and invoice number. A reusable template should leave room for branch or location details when the supplier has more than one issuing location.

Copy handling also matters. A tax invoice must be issued in at least two copies, with the original given to the purchaser and the supplier preserving a copy. For goods in transport, the original must accompany the vehicle. A registered or enlisted person must also send information for VAT or turnover-tax invoices valued at more than Taka 2 lakh to the VAT Computer System in VAT-6.10, unless an approved automated system already sends the required data.

Use tools at the right stage

A one-off invoice tool is enough when you need a clean Bangladesh invoice for a single client, with VAT-6.3 fields, BIN details, serial numbering, and a clear total. It also works for freelancers and small suppliers that already know the correct VAT treatment, payment terms, and buyer information before issuing the document.

A managed workflow becomes necessary when billable work changes by person, project, or task. Everhour separates internal cost rates from client-facing billable rates, supports default per-person rates and per-project overrides, and keeps dated rate history. That setup helps turn approved work into consistent invoice amounts without rebuilding rate logic for every billing period.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Bangladesh VAT form applies to a registered supplier's invoice?

A registered person must issue a VAT invoice in Form VAT-6.3 against each taxable supply. NBR publishes VAT 6.3 as the prescribed VAT 2012 form. A supplier may keep prescribed VAT forms in its own format only if the form name, all prescribed information, and minimum required copies are included.

Does every Bangladesh invoice use 15% VAT?

The standard Bangladesh VAT rate is 15% for taxable imports and taxable supplies unless a special rule or exemption applies. NBR's VAT FAQ also states that exports are taxed at 0%. Apply the VAT rule that matches the supply, buyer, and transaction type instead of adding 15% automatically to every invoice.

Which buyer details are required above Taka 25,000?

Buyer name, address, and Business Identification Number are required on a Bangladesh tax invoice when the value of the supply exceeds Taka 25,000. The Act states that input tax credit is not admissible if those buyer details are missing where required, so a high-value invoice should not be finalized with a blank buyer BIN field.

Is one invoice copy enough in Bangladesh?

A Bangladesh tax invoice must be issued in at least two copies. The original goes to the purchaser, and the supplier preserves a copy. For goods in transport, the original must accompany the vehicle, so the invoice process should account for both customer delivery and supplier retention.

Which invoice values trigger VAT Computer System reporting?

A registered or enlisted person must send information for any VAT invoice or turnover-tax invoice valued at more than Taka 2 lakh to the VAT Computer System in VAT-6.10 before or after filing the return for the tax period. This filing step is not needed when an approved automated system has already sent the required data.

How does Everhour handle different billable rates for Bangladesh invoices?

Everhour separates cost rates from client-facing billable rates, then prices billable work by project, member, or custom task rate. Teams can set default per-person rates, add per-project overrides, and date rate changes so older billing periods keep their original calculations.

How can Everhour turn tracked work into invoice lines?

Everhour Billing & Invoicing converts uninvoiced billable time and expenses into client invoices. Invoice data can be grouped by project, task, person, date, or other available breakdowns, which helps match the invoice line structure to the client agreement before export.
