A Saudi Arabia invoice needs enough detail for the buyer to approve payment and for VAT records to stand up later. Start with the commercial basics: seller, buyer, invoice number, dates, line items, prices, discounts, payment terms, and totals. Then add the Saudi VAT details that apply to taxable supplies, including VAT registration identifiers and tax amounts.
Saudi VAT tax invoices must be issued in Arabic, in addition to any other language on the invoice. The VAT amount payable must appear in Saudi riyals, even when the contract or supporting commercial amounts also use another currency. Treat that SAR tax total as a required invoice value, not a formatting preference.
A full Saudi tax invoice must carry a sequential invoice number, the issue date, and the supply date when it differs from the issue date. It must show the supplier's name, address, and tax identification number. Customer name, address, and tax identification number are required where the customer is accountable for VAT.
Line items need a clear description of the goods or services, quantity, unit price excluding VAT, discounts or rebates, taxable amount by VAT rate or exemption, VAT rate, and VAT amount due. Saudi Arabia's standard VAT rate is 15% for taxable supplies that are not zero-rated or exempt, so the invoice must separate taxable amounts from any exempt or zero-rated treatment.
A simplified tax invoice can fit qualifying low-value supplies not exceeding SAR 1,000, subject to the exclusions in the VAT regulations. It still needs the issue date, supplier name, address and tax identification number, description of the goods or services, consideration payable, and either the VAT payable or a statement that the consideration includes VAT.
A common mistake is treating a short invoice as a loose receipt. The simplified version reduces some fields, but it does not remove the need for VAT clarity, supplier identification, and electronic recordkeeping where the Saudi e-invoicing rules apply. Use a full tax invoice when buyer details, accountability for VAT, or transaction complexity requires it.
A free invoice tool is enough when you need to prepare a single printable invoice, check that required Saudi VAT fields are present, and share a clean PDF or printout. It works well for a one-time service sale, a quick correction, or a small batch of invoices where billable time has already been approved elsewhere.
A managed workflow becomes the better choice when tracked time, project expenses, VAT settings, and invoice status must stay connected. Everhour Billing & Invoicing converts uninvoiced billable time and expenses into invoices, calculates amounts from rates while excluding non-billable work, and exports invoices to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or FreshBooks.

Yes. Saudi VAT tax invoices must be issued in Arabic, in addition to any other language used on the invoice. A bilingual invoice can include English or another commercial language, but the Arabic version must carry the required tax invoice information so the document remains suitable for Saudi VAT records.
Saudi Arabia uses VAT, and the standard VAT rate is 15% for taxable supplies that are not zero-rated or exempt. The invoice should show the taxable amount by rate or exemption, the VAT rate, and the VAT amount due, with the VAT amount payable shown in Saudi riyals.
Yes, a simplified tax invoice may be used for qualifying low-value supplies not exceeding SAR 1,000, subject to exclusions in the VAT regulations. It still needs the issue date, supplier identity and tax identification number, supply description, consideration payable, and either the VAT payable or a statement that the consideration includes VAT.
Missing or inconsistent tax identifiers create immediate review issues. A full Saudi tax invoice must show the supplier's name, address, and tax identification number, plus the customer's name, address, and tax identification number where the customer is accountable for VAT. Line descriptions and VAT amounts also need to match the commercial record.
Yes. Phase 1 requires VAT taxpayers, except non-resident taxpayers, and parties issuing tax invoices on their behalf to generate and store tax invoices and notes through compliant electronic solutions from 4 December 2021. Phase 2 began on 1 January 2023 in taxpayer waves and requires integration with ZATCA systems after notification.
Everhour Billing & Invoicing turns uninvoiced billable time and expenses into invoices, with amounts calculated from rates, time, and billable expenses while non-billable work stays out of the total. Client defaults can hold taxes, discounts, payment terms, and contact details before export to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or FreshBooks.
Everhour displays exported invoice status, invoice number, issue date, and amount after invoices move to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or FreshBooks. That keeps project billing reports connected to the accounting handoff, so teams can see which work has been invoiced and which billable amounts remain uninvoiced.
Create invoices from approved time, expenses, client defaults, and billing rates. Everhour keeps invoice status connected after accounting export, giving teams cleaner billing control.
