An employee time tracking app in Vietnam should help you collect the hours needed for payroll review, client billing, and internal approvals. Vietnam's Labour Code requires employers to prepare and update a physical or electronic employee book and report employment-status changes, but it does not create an EU-style rule requiring objective daily working-time records for all employees.
The practical need still exists. You need daily start and finish times, project or task labels, break treatment, overtime approval, night-work flags, and salary-period totals. Normal working hours in Vietnam must not exceed 8 hours per day or 48 hours per week. If the employer applies weekly working hours, daily hours may not exceed 10 hours and weekly hours may not exceed 48 hours.
Vietnam time tracking should keep regular work, overtime, weekly day-off work, public holiday or paid-leave work, and night work in separate categories. Vietnam's minimum overtime pay rates are 150% on normal days, 200% on weekly days off, and 300% on public holidays or paid leave, excluding the normal daily salary for daily-paid employees on those holidays or leave days.
Night work also needs its own flag. Vietnam defines night work as work from 22:00 to 06:00 and requires at least a 30% premium. Overtime performed at night adds at least 20% of the day-work salary for the relevant day type. A single "extra hours" column hides those distinctions and creates cleanup work before payroll.
Vietnam overtime needs employee agreement, and the employer must respect statutory daily, monthly, and annual limits. Overtime generally may not exceed 50% of normal working hours in a day, total normal plus overtime work may not exceed 12 hours in a day under weekly scheduling, monthly overtime may not exceed 40 hours, and annual overtime may not exceed 200 hours except specified cases.
Employee-identifiable time data also sits inside Vietnam's personal-data framework. The Personal Data Protection Law takes effect on January 1, 2026, alongside Decree 356/2025/ND-CP. Time tracking that identifies a worker should be handled as personal data processing, with notice, consent or a lawful exemption, and relevant controller or processor obligations.
A free one-off tool is enough when you need a weekly total, a quick overtime check, or a clean export for a small team. It works best when one person reviews the result before payroll and the same worker categories, schedules, and VND pay rules apply across the group.
A managed workflow matters when tracked time feeds payroll, billing, project budgets, or client invoices every month. Everhour Time Tracking supports live timers and manual entries, records work against tasks and projects, and routes hours into timesheets, reports, budgets, invoices, and payroll review. Admins can use approvals, locked periods, reminders, and timer rules to reduce late edits and missing entries.

Vietnam's Labour Code requires employers to prepare and update a physical or electronic employee book and report employment-status changes. It does not set an EU-style universal rule requiring objective daily working-time records for all employees. Employers still need reliable hour records when those records support contracts, internal labor rules, overtime approval, salary notes, payroll review, and dispute handling.
The app should help review the 8-hour daily and 48-hour weekly normal-hour limits. If the employer schedules work on a weekly basis, daily working hours may not exceed 10 hours and weekly hours may not exceed 48 hours. Vietnam also encourages 40-hour workweeks, so teams often track actual weekly totals against both legal limits and internal policy.
Vietnam overtime generally may not exceed 50% of normal working hours in a day, 40 hours in a month, and 200 hours in a year except specified cases. Under weekly scheduling, total normal plus overtime work may not exceed 12 hours in a day. Selected sectors and urgent cases may use up to 300 overtime hours per year with written notice to the provincial labour authority.
Night work in Vietnam runs from 22:00 to 06:00 and carries at least a 30% premium. Overtime at night also adds at least 20% of the day-work salary for the relevant day type. A time record that only stores total hours forces payroll to reconstruct whether the work happened during normal daytime work, night work, overtime, or night overtime.
Salary in employment contracts and actual payment must be in Vietnamese dong except for foreign employees. Each salary payment must include a note showing salary, overtime pay, nightshift pay, and deductions if any. Time tracking should support that salary note by keeping overtime, nightshift work, and deductions review separate from ordinary scheduled hours.
Everhour Time Tracking captures task and project hours through live timers or manual entries, then feeds those entries into timesheets, reports, budgets, invoices, and payroll review. Admins can approve timesheets, lock completed periods, send reminders, and configure timer rules before payroll uses the time records.
Everhour embeds time tracking controls inside tools such as Asana, ClickUp, GitHub, Linear, Jira, Monday, Notion, Trello, and Basecamp. Teams can track time where work is assigned while Everhour keeps the logged hours available for reporting, budget checks, and billing review.
Track approved hours, overtime review, and project work in one workflow. Everhour Time Tracking connects timers, manual entries, approvals, locked periods, and payroll-ready review into a cleaner operating record.
