This page is for creating invoices for work, goods, or services connected to Hungary. The finished invoice should identify both parties, describe each line item clearly, show the taxable base and VAT treatment, and give the buyer enough payment detail to approve it. Hungarian VAT-taxable persons must ensure that an invoice is issued for supplies of goods or services made in Hungary for consideration, unless a specific VAT Act exemption allows another document or receipt treatment.
Hungarian invoicing is governed by Act CXXVII of 2007 on VAT and NTCA rules. A compliant workflow starts with the transaction type, the supply date, the buyer's tax status, and the correct VAT label. Hungary uses VAT rather than sales tax, so the invoice should show VAT rates and VAT amounts instead of a sales-tax line imported from another country.
A Hungarian VAT invoice must include the date of issue and a sequential number that uniquely identifies the invoice. Invoicing software must allocate consecutive serial numbers without omission or repetition. The invoice also needs the supplier's tax number, full name, and address, plus the customer's full name and address. The customer's tax number is required in reverse-charge, intra-Community, or domestic taxable-customer cases specified by the VAT Act.
Line items need enough detail to support the VAT calculation. Include the goods or service name and quantity where measurable, supply or advance date if different from the issue date, taxable amount, unit price excluding tax, discounts not included in the unit price, applied tax rate, output VAT amount, and exemption reference where applicable. A consulting line, for example, should show the service description, period, net amount, VAT rate, VAT amount, and gross total.
Hungary's general VAT rate is 27% of the taxable amount. The 0%, 5%, and 18% rates apply only to goods and services listed in the VAT Act, and exemptions apply to specified public-interest or special-nature activities. Treat reduced rates and exemptions as rule-based classifications, not as styling choices. A wrong VAT rate creates a tax problem and gives the customer a reason to reject the invoice.
Currency and language also matter. Hungary's currency is the Hungarian forint, and a domestic VAT invoice must show output VAT payable in HUF even if other invoice details are in another currency. Invoices may be issued in Hungarian or any spoken foreign language, but an official Hungarian translation may be required during a tax audit. Electronic invoicing requires the recipient's consent, and EDI-based electronic invoicing also requires a prior written agreement.
A free invoice app is enough when you need a single document, already know the buyer details, and have the VAT treatment ready. It also works for occasional invoices where the supporting time records, expenses, discounts, and payment terms live somewhere else. For Hungary, keep NTCA reporting in view: software-issued invoice data must be reported immediately through online data disclosure when the invoice falls within the VAT Act scope.
A managed workflow becomes necessary when billable time, project costs, approvals, and invoices need to match. Everhour reports can group project data, filter records, and export results before invoicing, so finance teams can review billable amounts without rebuilding the work history manually. Keep the invoice's Hungarian VAT requirements separate from the work records, then use reporting to connect approved time, project costs, and client billing.

Hungary uses VAT rather than sales tax. The general VAT rate is 27% of the taxable amount, with 0%, 5%, and 18% rates applying only to goods and services listed in the VAT Act. An invoice connected to Hungarian VAT rules should show VAT treatment by line or summary, including the tax base, VAT rate, and output VAT amount.
A Hungarian VAT invoice must include the issue date, a unique sequential invoice number, supplier tax number, supplier name and address, customer name and address, and customer tax number in specified VAT Act cases. Line items must show the item or service, quantity where measurable, supply date when different, taxable amount, unit price excluding tax, discounts, VAT rate, VAT amount, and exemption reference where applicable.
Invoices are generally issued immediately when consideration or an advance is paid by completion. Other VAT-charged supplies generally require an invoice within 8 days. Specified intra-Community exempt supplies and reverse-charge services use the 15th day of the following month. Use the transaction type and payment timing to choose the deadline.
A Hungarian invoice can show commercial amounts in another currency, but a domestic VAT invoice must show output VAT payable in HUF. Hungary allows invoices in Hungarian or any spoken foreign language, although an official Hungarian translation may be required during a tax audit. Keep the HUF VAT amount visible and traceable.
The most common serious mistake is treating Hungarian VAT as a generic tax field. The invoice needs the correct VAT rate, HUF output VAT amount for domestic VAT invoices, required customer tax number when the VAT Act requires it, and special-regime wording or exemption reference where applicable. Missing serial numbering also creates compliance risk.
Everhour Reporting lets teams build reports with 45+ columns, grouping, filters, date ranges, and exports in CSV, Excel/XLSX, or PDF. Before issuing an invoice, a team can review billable time, costs, project data, and invoice status in one report, then use the exported records as billing support.
Everhour tracks billable and non-billable time at the project and task level, including custom task rates for time-and-materials work. Admins can report billable time, non-billable time, billable amount, and cost, so the invoice reflects approved chargeable work instead of a manual estimate.
Use Everhour Reporting to review billable work, costs, and invoice status before creating client invoices, with exports that support accurate billing records.
