Tracked hours flow straight into a polished invoice — no copy-paste, no manual math.
Use this page to assemble a billable-hours view for work managed in Asana: client project, tasks, assigned people, logged time, billable status, rate, and invoice-ready totals. The goal is a report that explains exactly which work can be charged, which work stays internal, and which entries need correction before anyone sends a client summary or invoice.
A good report follows the work structure your team already uses. Task names, project names, custom fields, and tags should carry through into the billing view so a client can recognize the work, and a manager can trace each total back to the original task. Comments and descriptions matter when the task title is too broad for invoice review.
Start with a date range and one client or project scope. Add task, project, member, date, tracked time, billable status, billable rate, billable amount, and comments. Use cost only for internal review because client billing usually needs the amount charged, while margin review needs the labor cost behind that amount. Keep non-billable entries visible during review so omissions and exclusions are deliberate.
For example, a task named "Landing page QA" should show the person who logged it, the day worked, the billable flag, and the rate applied. If the same project includes internal work, mark those entries separately instead of deleting them. Removing internal time makes the billing total look cleaner and destroys the audit trail a manager needs when the client questions scope.
Set billing status at the project level, then mark individual tasks or people differently only when the billing agreement requires it. A time-and-materials project may need custom task rates if specialized work is billed differently from the default rate. This prevents a report from mixing chargeable work, excluded work, and rate exceptions into one unexplained total.
Keep billable and non-billable columns in the same report until approval. A manager can then confirm that excluded entries are intentionally excluded and that billable entries have rates before export. A common mistake is grouping everything only by project; that hides task-level exclusions, rate exceptions, and entries from a person whose project rate was set differently for that client.
A one-off report is enough when you need to review one project, one date range, or one client billing cycle and the underlying entries are already complete. Export the clean result for spreadsheet review, invoice backup, or client discussion. The manual route works best when rates are stable, the team is small, and no one needs approval history after the report leaves the tool.
Use a managed workflow when billable hours change daily, several people log time to the same Asana project, or invoice review depends on approvals and locked periods. Everhour keeps tracking controls inside Asana, syncs projects and tasks into reports, and gives admins exports for billing review. That system turns the report from a one-time file into a repeatable billing record.

Include the billing period, client or project, task, team member, logged time, billable status, rate, billable amount, and comments or descriptions. Keep non-billable rows visible during review, then filter or group the final client view according to the billing agreement. A report that only shows total project hours leaves too many billing decisions unexplained.
Set the default billing method at project level, then handle exceptions at the task or person level when the agreement treats that work differently. Keep excluded time in the reporting data even when it stays off the invoice. Deleted entries make utilization, cost, and project history less reliable.
Group first by client or project, then by task, member, or date based on the reviewer's job. A client-facing review usually needs recognizable task or project labels. An internal billing review needs member, rate, billable amount, non-billable time, and cost so managers can verify the total before export.
Reusing the same uninvoiced time across multiple billing cycles causes duplicate invoicing. Mark entries as invoiced after they are included in an invoice, and keep invoice status in the reporting workflow. A clean period cutoff also matters because late manual entries can appear after the first export.
Include cost for internal profitability review, not for every client-facing report. Billable amount shows what the client is charged; cost shows the labor expense behind that revenue. Managers need both when they review margin, fixed-fee projects, or rate exceptions. A client invoice backup usually needs billable hours, rates, amounts, and clear work descriptions.
Everhour adds time tracking controls inside Asana tasks and projects, then syncs project names, task titles, custom fields, and tags into its reporting layer. That lets teams review billable hours by the same Asana work structure used during delivery without retyping task context.
Everhour Billing & Invoicing marks included time as invoiced after an invoice is generated, so the same entries stop appearing as uninvoiced work. The invoice view also keeps status, number, issue date, and amount connected to the reporting record for later review.
Track work inside Asana, keep project and task context synced, and review billable hours from one reporting layer. Everhour turns task time into cleaner billing records.
