Use this page to prepare invoices for Saudi Arabia transactions where the buyer expects a clear tax invoice, correct VAT treatment, and a document that matches local invoicing practice. The finished invoice should show the commercial deal, payment request, and tax breakdown in a form your client can review without asking for missing identifiers or a rebuilt tax line.
Saudi Arabia uses VAT at a 15% standard rate for taxable supplies that are not zero-rated or exempt. VAT amounts payable on a Saudi tax invoice must be shown in Saudi riyals, even when other commercial amounts also appear in another currency. Saudi VAT tax invoices must be issued in Arabic, in addition to any other language used on the invoice.
A full Saudi tax invoice must include a sequential invoice number, issue date, and supply date when the supply date differs from the issue date. It must show the supplier's name, address, and tax identification number. It must also show the customer's name, address, and tax identification number where the customer is accountable for VAT.
Line items need enough detail to support the VAT calculation. Each line should describe the goods or services supplied and show the taxable amount by rate or exemption, unit price excluding VAT, discounts or rebates, VAT rate, and VAT amount due. A service line can read as consulting services for March, quantity 10, unit price SAR 500, VAT rate 15%, VAT amount SAR 750.
A simplified tax invoice may be used for qualifying low-value supplies not exceeding SAR 1,000, subject to the exclusions in the VAT regulations. That document still needs the issue date, supplier name, address and tax identification number, a description of the goods or services, consideration payable, and either the VAT payable or a statement that the consideration includes VAT.
A full tax invoice gives the buyer more audit-ready information, especially when the buyer needs its own VAT records. The common mistake is treating every small receipt format as enough for business billing. Use the full tax invoice structure when the transaction, buyer, or VAT accountability requires buyer identity fields and a complete line-level VAT breakdown.
A one-off invoice is enough when you have a finished sale, fixed price, correct VAT treatment, and complete buyer details. It works for occasional billing where the project record already exists somewhere else and you only need a clean document with Saudi tax fields, Arabic wording, SAR VAT totals, and payment details.
A managed workflow is better when billable time, rates, expenses, approvals, and invoice status change throughout the month. Everhour separates cost and billable rates, supports per-person defaults and per-project overrides, preserves dated rate history, and can price billable work by project, member, or task before invoice amounts are prepared.

Saudi VAT invoicing is administered by ZATCA, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. Saudi Arabia's invoice rules are VAT-centered, so taxable suppliers need invoice records that show VAT identifiers, taxable amounts, VAT rate, VAT amount, and SAR VAT totals in the required invoice format.
Saudi VAT tax invoices must be issued in Arabic. Another language can also appear on the invoice, but Arabic is required. For cross-border client communication, many businesses use bilingual invoices so the buyer sees familiar commercial terms while the Arabic tax content remains present.
Missing VAT registration identifiers, absent supply dates, unclear line descriptions, and VAT totals outside SAR cause avoidable rework. A full Saudi tax invoice also needs sequential numbering, supplier and buyer identity fields where required, taxable amounts, VAT rate, VAT amount, and discounts or rebates when they affect the taxable value.
A simplified tax invoice may be used for qualifying low-value supplies not exceeding SAR 1,000, subject to the exclusions in the VAT regulations. It still needs the issue date, supplier details and TIN, supply description, consideration payable, and VAT payable or a statement that the price includes VAT.
Saudi e-invoicing requires VAT taxpayers, except non-resident taxpayers, and parties issuing tax invoices on their behalf to generate and store tax invoices and notes through compliant electronic solutions from December 4, 2021. Phase 2 began on January 1, 2023 in waves and requires integration with ZATCA systems after notice.
Everhour separates internal cost rates from client-facing billable rates, then supports default per-person rates and per-project overrides. For Saudi client work, teams can price billable time by project, member, or custom task rate and preserve dated rate changes so older billing periods keep their original calculations.
Everhour marks time as invoiced after it is included in an invoice, so it does not appear again as uninvoiced work. That invoice workflow helps teams separate billed and unbilled time when monthly Saudi client invoices pull from several projects, people, or billable task groups.
Keep Saudi invoice preparation tied to the rates behind the work. Everhour connects billable rates, dated rate history, and project pricing to billing workflows that support cleaner client invoices.
