Use this page to prepare a client invoice for work billed in Greece, especially B2B services, project work, retainers, and billable time. The finished invoice should identify both parties, describe the service clearly, show the correct VAT treatment, and give the payer a clean payment deadline. Greece uses VAT, locally ΦΠΑ, within the EU VAT system.
The practical goal is a document your client can process without asking for missing tax or billing details. A Greece invoice commonly needs the supplier details, customer details, invoice issue date, unique sequential number, VAT identification number or Greek TIN, known as AFM, line descriptions, quantities, unit prices, VAT rate, VAT amount, and payment terms.
A full EU VAT invoice for Greece includes the issue date, a unique sequential invoice number, supplier and customer names and addresses, the supplier VAT identification number, the customer VAT ID where required, line description and quantity, net unit price, and the transaction or payment date if different from the issue date. Each taxable line also needs the VAT rate and VAT amount.
Line items should match the work the buyer approved. A service invoice can list entries such as "Product design, March 2026, 24 hours at €75 per hour" and then show the net amount, VAT rate, VAT amount, and gross total. If one invoice includes supplies taxed at different rates, separate the VAT breakdown by rate or exemption instead of blending the tax into one unclear total.
Greece's standard VAT rate is 24%. The EU VAT-rate table also lists reduced rates of 6%, 13%, and 17%, plus a 4% super-reduced rate, with the applicable rate based on the goods, services, and any special territorial rule. Use the rate that applies to the specific supply, and keep exemption wording separate from taxable lines.
Greek invoice workflows also intersect with AADE's myDATA environment. AADE's timologio application supports electronic invoice issuance and real-time transmission of the necessary information to myDATA. Invoices issued through an AADE-recognized e-invoicing provider receive a Unique Entry Number and must show a QR code for authenticity verification. For Greek public-sector contracts, the staged B2G e-invoicing obligation began on September 12, 2023.
A one-off invoice is enough when you need a clean document for a single client, one project, and a clear VAT treatment. It also works for occasional billing where the approved work already sits in a separate time log, contract, or statement of work. The invoice still needs the right Greece fields before you send it.
A managed workflow becomes better when tracked time, changing rates, expenses, and invoice status all need to stay connected. Everhour separates cost and billable rates, supports per-person defaults and per-project overrides, preserves dated rate history, and prices billable work by project, member, or task. That structure keeps the invoice tied to the approved billing basis instead of a copied spreadsheet.

A Greece VAT invoice should show the applicable VAT rate and VAT amount for each taxable supply, plus a VAT breakdown by rate or exemption when the invoice contains mixed treatment. Greece's standard VAT rate is 24%, with reduced rates of 6%, 13%, and 17%, and a 4% super-reduced rate for qualifying supplies.
A full EU VAT invoice needs the customer VAT ID where the customer is liable for tax. The supplier's VAT identification number belongs on invoices except simplified invoices in some countries. For Greece, include the Greek TIN, known as AFM, or the relevant VAT identification number in the party details.
AADE's timologio release notes state that the document issuance language can be selected as Greek or English. A bilingual approach also helps when the client's accounting team works in English while the supplier keeps Greek tax records. Keep tax labels, currency, and VAT breakdowns clear regardless of the language.
The invoice should state the agreed due date from the contract or purchase order. Under EU commercial late-payment rules, if the contract does not fix a payment period, interest becomes automatically payable 30 calendar days after the client receives the invoice or payment request, or after delivery if the receipt date is unknown.
Mixing VAT rates into one total creates problems because a full VAT invoice must show the VAT rate, VAT amount, and a VAT breakdown by rate or exemption. Another common issue is a missing sequential invoice number. Use one clear sequence, complete party details, and separate taxable or exempt lines cleanly.
Everhour separates internal cost rates from client-facing billable rates, so reports calculate labor cost, revenue, and profit before an invoice is prepared. Teams can set default per-person rates, override rates by project, date rate changes, and price billable work by project, member, or custom task rate.
Everhour Billing & Invoicing lets users select uninvoiced time and expenses, preview the breakdown, and generate an invoice from billable work while excluding non-billable tasks. Invoice data can be grouped by project, task, person, date, or another available breakdown before export to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or FreshBooks.
Set project, member, or task rates once, keep dated changes intact, and invoice from approved billable time with Everhour.
