You need a document that identifies the supplier, the customer, the supply, the VAT treatment, and the amount due in a format the buyer can process. Greece operates inside the EU VAT system, and VAT applies to nearly all goods and services bought and sold for use or consumption in the EU, with Greek national rules handling the local implementation.
For B2B supplies, EU VAT invoicing rules generally require a VAT invoice when goods or services are supplied to another business or to a non-taxable legal entity, subject to exemptions for some financial, insurance, and other exempt transactions. A Greece-focused invoice should also support the practical local details buyers expect, including the VAT identification number or Greek TIN, known as AFM.
A full EU VAT invoice needs the issue date, a unique sequential invoice number, supplier and customer names and addresses, VAT ID where required, line description and quantity, net unit price, transaction or payment date if different, VAT rate, VAT amount, and a VAT breakdown by rate or exemption. Treat the invoice number as a control field, since gaps and duplicates create review problems.
Greek VAT is labeled ΦΠΑ. The EU VAT-rate table lists Greece with a 24% standard VAT rate, reduced rates of 6%, 13%, and 17%, and a 4% super-reduced rate. The applicable rate depends on the goods, services, and any special territorial rule, so the invoice should show the rate used on each line or in a clear VAT summary.
AADE's myDATA environment matters because Greece uses electronic transmission for invoice data. AADE's timologio application supports electronic invoice issuance and real-time transmission of the necessary information to the myDATA platform. AADE's timologio release notes also state that document issuance language can be selected as Greek or English, which helps suppliers serving cross-border buyers.
Public-sector billing needs extra attention. For Greek public-sector contracts, GSIS states that the staged obligation for suppliers to submit electronic invoices began on September 12, 2023, with routing through certified e-invoicing providers and PEPPOL-related infrastructure where required. When invoices are issued through an AADE-recognized e-invoicing provider, the e-invoice receives a Unique Entry Number and must show a QR code for authenticity verification.
A free invoice tool is enough for a one-time client bill, a simple service invoice, or a small job where you already know the hours, rate, tax treatment, and payment terms. It helps you produce a clean document quickly, especially when the invoice needs Greek or English language output and a clear VAT breakdown for the buyer.
A managed workflow becomes useful when invoices come from tracked billable time, expenses, multiple projects, or repeat clients. Everhour Billing & Invoicing converts tracked billable time and expenses into invoices, calculates amounts from rates while excluding non-billable tasks, supports client settings and invoice customization, and exports invoices to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or FreshBooks with status sync back to Everhour.

A Greek invoice should show the VAT rate that applies to the specific goods or services. Greece has a 24% standard VAT rate, reduced rates of 6%, 13%, and 17%, and a 4% super-reduced rate. The correct rate depends on the supply and any special territorial rule, so separate mixed-rate items into distinct invoice lines or a clear VAT breakdown.
A full EU VAT invoice needs the customer's VAT ID where the customer is liable for tax. It also needs the supplier's VAT identification number except simplified invoices in some countries. For Greek counterparties, the tax identifier is commonly the Greek TIN, known as AFM, issued through AADE's tax-register process.
AADE's timologio release notes state that document issuance language can be selected as Greek or English. A supplier should still make sure the invoice includes the required VAT fields, line descriptions, VAT rate and amount, and party details. Language choice does not replace the required invoice data.
Under EU commercial late-payment rules, if the contract does not set a payment period, interest becomes automatically payable 30 calendar days after the client receives the invoice or payment request, or after delivery if the receipt date is unknown. For Greece, the listed statutory commercial late-payment interest rate is 10.15% for January 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026 when no contractual rate applies.
Treating a normal PDF as enough for every Greek buyer creates problems. Greece uses AADE's myDATA environment for invoice data transmission, and public-sector contracts have staged e-invoicing obligations that began on September 12, 2023. Public-sector invoices may need routing through certified e-invoicing providers and PEPPOL-related infrastructure where required.
