Creating Greece-ready client invoices

Start with the billing job

A Greece-focused invoice has to do more than request payment. It has to identify the supplier and customer, describe the goods or services, show the correct VAT treatment, and give the client enough detail to approve the charge. For a service business, that usually means invoice lines tied to a project, date range, rate, quantity, and payment term.

Greece uses VAT, known locally as ΦΠΑ, within the EU VAT framework. The EU VAT-rate table lists Greece with a 24% standard VAT rate, reduced rates of 6%, 13%, and 17%, and a 4% super-reduced rate. The correct rate depends on the goods, services, and any special territorial rule, so invoice software should let you apply the right rate to the right line.

Include the required invoice details

A full EU VAT invoice needs the issue date, a unique sequential invoice number, supplier and customer names and addresses, the supplier VAT identification number, and the customer VAT ID where required. It also needs line descriptions, quantities, net unit prices, transaction or payment dates where different, VAT rates, VAT amounts, and a VAT breakdown by rate or exemption.

For Greek billing, the tax identifier is the VAT identification number or Greek TIN, called AFM. Put that identifier near the party details, not buried in a note. A clean service invoice might show one line for "Development support, May 2026," quantity of 20 hours, unit price of €75, net amount of €1,500, VAT at 24%, and the gross total due.

Handle Greece-specific digital records

Greek invoicing also sits inside AADE's digital reporting environment. AADE's timologio application supports electronic invoice issuance and real-time transmission of the necessary information to the myDATA platform. Invoice software for Greece should therefore help you keep invoice data structured, consistent, and ready for the tax reporting process instead of treating the invoice as only a static PDF.

E-invoicing matters more when the buyer or channel requires it. When invoices are issued through an AADE-recognized e-invoicing provider, the provider transmits income documents to myDATA in real time, the e-invoice receives a Unique Entry Number, and e-invoices must show a QR code for authenticity verification. Greek public-sector contracts also have a staged B2G e-invoicing obligation that began on September 12, 2023.

Choose between one invoice and a workflow

A one-off invoice tool is enough when you need a single client invoice, know the correct VAT rate, have the AFM and address details, and can store the final record yourself. It works well for occasional freelance billing, a small fixed-fee project, or a simple time-and-materials invoice with only a few lines and one VAT rate.

A managed workflow becomes necessary when billable hours, non-billable work, rates, approvals, and repeat invoices need a system of record. Everhour supports that workflow by separating billable and non-billable time through project billing status, task-level non-billable controls, custom task rates, member-rate exceptions, and admin reports that show billable time, non-billable time, billable amount, and cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Greek invoice software need to handle VAT?

Yes, Greek invoice software should handle VAT because Greece operates under the EU VAT system. The standard VAT rate is 24%, with reduced rates of 6%, 13%, and 17%, plus a 4% super-reduced rate for qualifying supplies. The invoice should show the VAT rate and amount clearly, with a breakdown by rate or exemption.

Which tax identifier belongs on a Greece invoice?

A Greece invoice should show the supplier's VAT identification number or Greek TIN, called AFM. EU VAT rules require the supplier's VAT identification number on invoices except simplified invoices in some countries. The customer VAT ID also belongs on the invoice where the customer is liable for the tax.

Can a Greece invoice be issued in English?

Yes. AADE's timologio release notes state that document issuance language can be selected as Greek or English. The practical choice depends on the customer, contract, and accounting process. For cross-border work, English invoice labels often help the buyer review the document, while Greek identifiers and VAT details still need to stay correct.

Does myDATA replace the client invoice?

No. myDATA transmission supports tax reporting, but the client still needs an invoice with the required commercial and VAT details. AADE's timologio supports electronic invoice issuance and real-time transmission of the necessary information to myDATA, so the invoice record and the reporting record should match.

Which payment term fits a Greek B2B invoice?

A written contract should set the payment period when the parties agree on one. Under EU commercial late-payment rules, if the contract does not fix a payment period, interest becomes automatically payable 30 calendar days after the client receives the invoice or payment request, or after delivery if receipt date is unknown.

How does Everhour separate billable and non-billable work before invoicing?

Everhour lets admins set project billing status, mark specific tasks as non-billable, use custom task rates, and set member-rate exceptions. Admin reports can show billable time, non-billable time, billable amount, and cost, so the invoice total comes from approved billable work instead of a manual cleanup.

How does Everhour turn tracked work into invoices?

Everhour can generate invoices from uninvoiced time and expenses, calculate amounts from rates and billable expenses, and exclude non-billable work. Invoice lines can be grouped by project, task, person, date, or another available breakdown, then exported to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or FreshBooks.

Turn Greek billing into a workflow

Track billable and non-billable work before the invoice stage. Everhour keeps project time, rates, task exceptions, and billing reports connected, giving teams cleaner client invoices and stronger billing control.
