You need to decide whether to track time in ClickUp, use Clockify's ClickUp timer, or add a ClickUp-connected time layer for review and control. The practical job is narrow: capture time against ClickUp tasks, keep billable and non-billable work separate, review weekly hours, and turn those records into useful budget or billing reports.
ClickUp can store task time, manual entries, time estimates, billable status, descriptions, and tags. Its Free Forever plan includes 100 basic time tracking uses, while Unlimited, Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise include unlimited basic use. Advanced time entries have different limits, and timesheet approvals are listed for Business Plus and Enterprise.
Clockify's ClickUp integration adds a Clockify timer button inside ClickUp tasks. The timer can pick up the ClickUp task name, and Clockify can stop timers from its browser, mobile, or desktop apps. With extension settings enabled, ClickUp information can create or select matching Clockify projects, tasks, and tags.
The important boundary is storage. Time started from ClickUp through Clockify is recorded in Clockify only and does not sync back into ClickUp. Everhour's ClickUp integration also uses a browser-extension layer, and ClickUp notes that time tracked through Everhour is saved to Everhour reporting rather than ClickUp's native reports.
ClickUp supports billable flags and billable reporting, but its public feedback board lists hourly billable rates and cost rates as planned. Its Time Reporting, Time Estimated, and Time Tracked dashboard cards start at Unlimited, while the Billable Report card starts at Business. Per-assignee time estimates require Business or above.
Clockify includes unlimited tracking and reports on its Free plan for up to 5 users. Billable hourly rates start on Basic, task-specific hourly rates start on Standard, and budget estimates with alerts start on Pro. Clockify budget estimates are informational, so they do not automatically stop time tracking after a budget is used up.
A one-off setup is enough when you need a task timer, a timesheet, and basic reports outside ClickUp. Clockify fits that shape when the team accepts Clockify as the place where tracked time lives and reviews project time, task time, billability, tags, and reports there.
A managed workflow matters when approvals, lock rules, correction rights, tracking limits, roles, and team-wide time policy need to survive beyond one report. Clockify time started from ClickUp is recorded in Clockify and does not upload tracked time back into ClickUp. Clockify can report on those entries inside Clockify, while ClickUp remains separate because the integration does not send those tracked entries back to ClickUp.
ClickUp lists timesheet approvals for Business Plus and Enterprise. The approval workflow includes submitting a timesheet, requesting changes, and approving timesheets. ClickUp notes that some lower-plan early access can exist, so plan availability should be checked against the current workspace settings before rollout.

Clockify Pro and Enterprise can track money budgets as manual or task-based budgets and compare billable entry amounts against spent and remaining amounts. Clockify estimates do not automatically block further tracking after overrun.
