A project time tracking app in India should help you capture who worked, which project or task they worked on, the date, the daily total, and the work category. India's Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code sets an 8 hours per day central daily working-time norm for covered workers, so daily totals belong in the record, even when managers also review weekly project budgets.
The app should also separate project time from general attendance. A developer can record 6 hours on a client build, 1 hour on internal review, and 1 hour on training in the same day. That detail supports client billing, project costing, and payroll review without forcing the team to rebuild the workday from chat messages or calendar blocks.
India's OSH Code defines a covered establishment as a place carrying on industry, trade, business, manufacturing, or occupation with 10 or more workers, with separate treatment for mines, ports, factories, and listed sectors. A factory threshold can be 20 workers with power or 40 workers without power, while existing state thresholds continue until the competent legislature amends them.
Covered establishments must display and correctly maintain a notice showing the periods during which workers may be required to work each day. Employers must also maintain prescribed registers, records, and returns electronically or otherwise. A project time app should preserve dates, daily totals, worker identity, and approval history so the project record does not conflict with the work-period notice or required registers.
A clean time entry names the project, task, person, date, start or duration record, billable status, and short work note. For Indian billing, use Indian Rupee amounts when the report feeds a client invoice or project margin review. A line such as "Mobile app QA, 3 hours, ₹1,200 billable rate" gives the finance team enough context to check the entry before invoice preparation.
The common mistake is treating project labels as a substitute for working-time structure. Project names explain where the time went, but they do not prove the daily total, approved period, or exception handling. Overtime also needs separate attention because the OSH Code requires overtime at twice the rate of wages when a worker exceeds the daily or weekly hours prescribed by the appropriate government, and overtime requires the worker's consent.
A one-off tracker is enough when you need a weekly project total, a freelancer invoice draft, or a quick split between billable and non-billable work. Keep the export with the invoice or payroll file, and make sure the dates, project labels, and INR amounts match the records used by finance.
A managed workflow is better when several people work across clients, managers approve time, and HR or accounting needs a reliable trail. Everhour Team Management supports lock rules, admin time correction, personal tracking limits, weekly capacity, approval workflow, roles, project assignments, team groups, and team-wide policy defaults, giving Indian teams a controlled path from project hours to review.

India's OSH Code sets an 8 hours per day central daily working-time norm for covered workers. It also requires covered establishments to keep prescribed registers, records, and returns electronically or otherwise. A project app should retain daily totals because project billing, payroll review, and working-time review all use the same underlying hours.
A project app does not replace the displayed work-period notice required for every covered establishment under the OSH Code. The notice shows the periods during which workers may be required to work each day. Project records should align with that notice and preserve actual project hours, exceptions, and approvals.
Each entry should preserve the worker, date, project, task, daily total, billable status, approval status, and any correction history. Teams that bill clients should also keep INR amounts or rates in the billing report. These fields make the record useful for payroll, project costing, and client review.
The OSH Code allows prescribed registers, records, and returns to be maintained electronically or otherwise. Electronic records still need reliable structure, access control, and production on request. A spreadsheet can work for a small team, but edits, missing approvals, and inconsistent task names create review problems quickly.
Employee time data is personal data when it identifies a worker. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act is being phased in: board and administrative provisions began on November 13, 2025, and core processing obligations in sections 3 to 10 and related rights provisions commence on May 13, 2027. Notices and consent requests must offer English or an Eighth Schedule language once those provisions commence.
Everhour Team Management gives admins lock rules, admin time correction, personal tracking limits, weekly capacity, approval workflow, roles, project assignments, team groups, and team-wide defaults. Managers can approve time before payroll or billing review and limit later edits after a period closes.
Everhour can run standalone or embed time tracking inside tools such as Asana, ClickUp, GitHub, Linear, Jira, Monday, Notion, Trello, and Basecamp. Teams can track time where tasks already live, then use one reporting layer for project hours, budgets, utilization, and billing.
Set project assignments, approvals, limits, and locked periods around the way your team works. Everhour Team Management keeps project hours reviewable before payroll, billing, and reporting.
