Thai invoice download basics

Create a usable Thai invoice

A Thailand invoice download should give you a finished document for a sale of goods or provision of services in Thailand. For VAT-registered businesses, that document is a VAT tax invoice, not just a payment request. The Revenue Department requires VAT tax invoices to show the words "tax invoice," the issuer's name, address, taxpayer identification number, buyer name and address, serial number, issue date, line details, and separated VAT.

The practical goal is simple: enter the seller, buyer, items, values, VAT treatment, and payment details once, then download a clean invoice you can send or file. Thailand's statutory VAT tax-invoice particulars list the issue date, but do not list a payment due date or payment terms. Add due dates and payment terms from the contract, purchase order, or client agreement.

Check VAT before download

Thailand uses value added tax on supplies of goods, services, and imports. A person or entity that regularly supplies goods or provides services in Thailand is subject to VAT when annual turnover exceeds THB 1.8 million. The Revenue Department states the current general VAT rate is 7%, while the Revenue Code sets a 10% rate that may be reduced by Royal Decree.

A full Thai VAT tax invoice must separate the VAT amount from the value of the goods or services. A clear line item can show consulting services, quantity 10 hours, value THB 30,000, VAT THB 2,100, and total THB 32,100. If the tax base is expressed in foreign currency, convert it to Thai baht under the Revenue Department's conversion rules before issuing the tax invoice.

Review local format details

A downloaded Thailand invoice should use Thai language, Thai currency, and Thai or Arabic numerals unless the VAT registrant has approval from the Director-General to use a foreign language or currency. That requirement affects more than the total. Item descriptions, tax-invoice particulars, and currency presentation need review before you send the PDF or attach it to accounting records.

The issuer's taxpayer identification number belongs on the invoice because it is a required Thai tax-invoice field. The buyer name and address also matter, especially for a full VAT tax invoice used by a business customer. The serial number should be unique in your invoice sequence, and the issue date should match the time VAT liability occurs for the sale or service.

Move beyond one-off downloads

A free invoice download works for a single client, a small one-time job, or a corrected draft that needs manual review before sending. It is enough when the billable work is already summarized, the VAT status is clear, and you only need a formatted document with Thai invoice fields and a separated VAT amount.

A managed workflow becomes better when time, rates, expenses, and client approvals change across projects. Everhour Reporting gives teams customizable reports with 45+ columns, grouping, filters, date ranges, and exports, so billable work can be reviewed before an invoice is prepared. Keep the Thai VAT requirements in the invoice, and keep the operational trail in reports.

Thailand invoice FAQs

Does a Thailand invoice need to say "tax invoice"?

A VAT registrant issuing a full Thai VAT tax invoice must show the words "tax invoice." That label matters because Thailand distinguishes a VAT tax invoice from a basic commercial request for payment. Add the required issuer, buyer, serial number, issue date, line-item, value, and separated VAT details before downloading the document.

Which Thailand tax ID should appear on the invoice?

The issuer's taxpayer identification number, or TIN, is a required field on a Thai VAT tax invoice. Revenue Department tax-identification rules require taxpayers or income payers to obtain and use a taxpayer identification number unless an individual may use a personal identification number instead. Enter the registered seller's identifier exactly as it appears in tax records.

Should VAT be included in the line total or shown separately?

A full Thai VAT tax invoice must clearly separate the VAT amount from the value of the goods or services. Do not bury VAT inside one all-in total. Show the value before VAT, the VAT amount, and the total payable so the buyer can see the tax base and the tax charged.

Can a Thailand invoice be downloaded in a foreign currency?

Thai VAT tax-invoice particulars must be in Thai currency unless the VAT registrant has approval from the Director-General to use a foreign currency. If the VAT tax base is expressed in foreign currency, Thailand's rules require conversion to Thai baht using the applicable Revenue Department conversion method before the tax invoice is issued.

Is a due date required on a Thai VAT tax invoice?

Thailand's statutory VAT tax-invoice particulars include the issue date, but they do not list a payment due date or payment terms. You can still add a due date for collection and client clarity. Base that date on the contract, purchase order, statement of work, or standard credit terms agreed with the buyer.
