Everhour embeds task timers in ClickUp, so List-based work keeps time, billing setup, and review context together.

Tracked hours flow straight into a polished invoice — no copy-paste, no manual math.
Use this page when a ClickUp List is the unit you need to review: a client backlog, sprint List, support queue, or production board. The practical goal is a clean time record for every task that required labor, with entries attached to the List context instead of a separate spreadsheet. A usable record shows the task, project/List mapping, person, date, duration, and short note.
List-level review keeps task time readable for managers and billers. A week with 32 entries is easier to approve when each item names the ClickUp task that consumed the time. The List groups related tasks, while the entry carries the person, date, duration, and work note. That structure prevents one large bucket called client work from hiding the exact task that produced the hours.
Start the timer on the ClickUp task when the work begins, then stop it when the task segment ends. Everhour embeds the control in the task through the browser extension, so the entry stays tied to the task instead of requiring duplicate entry later. This fits coding, writing, support, review, and other focused work where the person knows the active task before starting.
Manual entry fits work recorded after the fact, such as a client call, planning block, or cleanup task. The entry still needs the task, date, duration, and note. Billing status should follow the Everhour project setup: billable projects can use project-hourly, person-hourly, or fixed-fee billing, and a task inside a billable project can be marked non-billable when the client should not be charged.
List-level tracking works best when a List represents one review question: a phase, client queue, sprint, or workstream. Everhour setup can sync ClickUp Lists or Folders as Everhour projects; choose the level that matches the report people will actually read. If the team reviews time by List, the List-as-project mapping keeps totals visible without asking managers to rebuild the hierarchy in a spreadsheet.
A common mistake is mixing billable delivery tasks, internal admin tasks, and status-only placeholders in one List without a billing rule. Separate the work before it reaches review: mark the specific non-billable tasks, use clear task names, and keep notes short but descriptive. ClickUp custom fields can sit at the List level, so shared attributes apply to every task and subtask in that List.
A one-off time export is enough for a small cleanup job, a short internal review, or a single client question. A managed workflow is better once List time needs approval, locked periods, project reporting, or an invoice handoff. Everhour timesheets let managers approve, reject, or partially approve submitted time before those hours become billing or payroll evidence.
Billing needs rates, exclusions, and durations. Everhour Billing & Invoicing turns tracked billable time and expenses into invoices, calculates amounts from billable time, project or member rates, and billable expenses, and excludes non-billable work. After export to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or FreshBooks, invoice status, number, issue date, and amount stay visible in Everhour.

Use a List as the billing project only when the List matches the client, phase, or workstream people need to invoice or review. Use a broader Folder mapping when several Lists belong under one commercial agreement. The right level is the one that produces a clear subtotal without splitting one client invoice across unnecessary project records.
Use the timer for active, task-specific work because it captures the session while the person is doing it. Use manual entry for work logged after completion, such as a meeting or correction. Mixing both methods is acceptable when the entry still has a task, date, duration, person, and useful note.
A useful entry identifies the task, List context, worker, date, duration, and work note. Billable status must follow the billing setup, including project-level billing choices and task-level non-billable exclusions where those rules are used. A vague note like updates is weaker than API review, copy edit, or client call.
Yes, a mixed List can work when the billing rule is explicit before review starts. Billable delivery tasks need a rate path, and internal or courtesy tasks need a non-billable mark. A single catch-all List becomes risky when reviewers must guess which hours belong on the client invoice.
Using one broad task for recurring work damages the totals fastest. Ten separate fixes logged to one task leave the List subtotal intact but hide the source of the work. Create task-level records for meaningful deliverables, then keep comments concise so reviewers can approve the hours without opening a separate explanation thread.
Everhour Billing & Invoicing uses tracked billable time and expenses to generate client invoices, with amounts calculated from time, project or member rates, and billable expenses. Non-billable tasks stay excluded, and invoices can export to QuickBooks Online, Xero, or FreshBooks as drafts.
Everhour Timesheets collect project hours by person for weekly review. Managers can approve, reject, or partially approve submitted time. Submitted time is locked unless withdrawn or rejected, and approved time stays locked for regular members before payroll or billing review.
Turn approved ClickUp List time into client invoices from billable hours, rates, and expenses. Everhour excludes non-billable tasks from the amount due and preserves cleaner billing handoffs.
