Use this page to prepare a Malaysia-ready invoice for a client, supplier, or internal finance handoff. The finished document should identify the seller, identify the buyer, describe each line item, show currency, show totals, and state any SST treatment that applies. It should also leave room for payment terms, bank details, and project references when those details help the buyer pay without follow-up.
Malaysia uses Sales and Service Tax, or SST. Sales tax applies as a single-stage tax on imported and locally manufactured goods, while service tax applies to prescribed taxable services provided by taxable persons in Malaysia. SST-registered manufacturers and registered service providers issue the relevant sales tax or service tax invoice. Malaysia SST invoice guidance allows hard-copy or electronic invoices in Malay or English.
A Malaysia e-Invoice requires structured supplier and buyer data, not only a business name and amount. The supplier side needs TIN, registration or identification number, MSIC code, business activity description, address, and contact number. The supplier SST registration number is mandatory for SST registrants, with `NA` used when the supplier is not registered.
The buyer side needs the buyer name, TIN, registration or identification number, address, and contact number. The buyer SST registration number field is mandatory for SST registrants, with `NA` allowed if the number is unavailable or not provided. Add invoice number, issue date and time, invoice currency, line items, monetary totals, total tax amount, and tax type so the invoice can survive accounting review.
LHDN phases mandatory e-Invoice implementation by annual turnover or revenue. The timeline is: more than RM100 million from August 1, 2024; more than RM25 million to RM100 million from January 1, 2025; more than RM5 million to RM25 million from July 1, 2025; RM1 million to RM5 million from January 1, 2026; and less than RM1 million exempt.
MyInvois requires invoice currency code on the invoice. A currency exchange rate is mandatory when a non-Malaysian currency must be converted into Malaysian Ringgit. For totals, include total excluding tax, total including tax, total payable amount, total tax amount, and total tax amount per tax type. Payment terms are optional agreed terms, but adding them reduces disputes over due dates and payment method.
A free template is enough for a one-off invoice when the seller, buyer, line items, SST treatment, and totals are already known. It also works when the invoice does not need to pull time, rates, or project costs from another system. The risk starts when someone rebuilds the same client, project, and rate details by hand every billing cycle.
Everhour separates internal cost rates from client-facing billable rates, with per-person defaults and per-project overrides. Billable projects can use project rates, member rates, or custom task rates, depending on how the client is billed. Dated rate changes preserve older calculations, so invoice preparation can follow the correct rate history instead of relying on a spreadsheet memory trail.

Malaysia invoices use SST when the seller is an SST-registered manufacturer selling taxable goods or a registered person providing taxable services. SST covers sales tax on imported and locally manufactured goods and service tax on prescribed taxable services in Malaysia. The invoice should show the relevant tax type and total tax amount when SST applies.
Malaysia SST invoice guidance allows hard-copy or electronic invoices in Malay or English. LHDN's e-Invoice mandate is separate and phased by annual turnover or revenue for B2B, B2C, and B2G transactions. Taxpayers with annual turnover or revenue below RM1,000,000 are exempt under the listed implementation scope.
A Malaysia e-Invoice requires the supplier's TIN, registration or identification number, MSIC code, business activity description, address, and contact number. The supplier SST registration number is mandatory for SST registrants. Suppliers that are not SST-registered use `NA` in the SST registration number field.
MyInvois requires an invoice currency code. Malaysian Ringgit is the reference currency for conversion, and a currency exchange rate is mandatory when a non-Malaysian currency must be converted into Malaysian Ringgit. A foreign-currency invoice should make the currency and exchange-rate basis clear before totals are approved.
Use separate totals for amount excluding tax, amount including tax, total payable amount, total tax amount, and total tax amount per tax type. A single grand total forces the buyer to reconstruct the tax calculation. Structured totals help finance teams validate the invoice against purchase orders, SST treatment, and internal approval records.
Everhour separates cost rates from billable rates, then supports default per-person rates and per-project overrides. Teams can price billable work by project, member, or custom task rate, and dated rate changes keep older reports tied to the rates that applied when the work happened.
Everhour can generate invoices from uninvoiced time and expenses, calculate amounts from billable time, project or member rates, and billable expenses, and exclude non-billable work. Invoice data can be grouped by project, task, person, date, or another available breakdown before export to accounting tools.
Use a template for isolated bills. Use Everhour when billable rates, project work, and approved time need to flow into repeatable invoice preparation with rate history intact.
