An email invoice for Australia needs to give the buyer a clear payment request and, when required, a valid tax invoice record. For a taxable sale over A$82.50 including GST, a GST-registered supplier must provide a tax invoice within 28 days if the customer requests one. The emailed PDF or document should be easy to store, forward, and match to the job or purchase order.
Use the email body for the short payment message, not for the full invoice record. Attach the invoice or include a stable downloadable copy with the invoice number, issue date, seller details, buyer details where needed, itemized charges, GST treatment, total payable, and due date. Australia does not set one national B2B payment term, so the due date should follow the contract or invoice terms.
A valid Australian tax invoice must clearly identify itself as a tax invoice and show the seller's identity and ABN, the issue date, what was sold, the quantity and price, the GST amount payable, and the extent to which each sale is taxable. The Australian Business Number is the 11-digit tax-registration identifier issued through the Australian Business Register and shown for the supplier.
GST-registered suppliers charge 10% GST on taxable supplies. The invoice can show the GST amount separately, or state that the total price includes GST when GST is exactly one-eleventh of the total price. If the total payable is A$1,000 or more, the tax invoice must also show the buyer's identity or the buyer's ABN.
The most common email mistake is treating the message as the invoice. A short email that says "please pay A$1,100" does not replace a tax invoice when GST invoice rules apply. The buyer needs the invoice label, ABN, supply details, GST treatment, price, and issue date in the actual invoice document or linked invoice record.
Another mistake is leaving GST unclear on mixed or foreign-currency invoices. If a tax invoice is issued in a foreign currency, it must either show the GST payable in Australian currency or provide enough information to work out the GST amount in Australian currency. Peppol eInvoicing is available in Australia, but ordinary businesses do not have a general national B2B requirement to issue invoices through Peppol.
A one-off email invoice is enough for a completed job with a clear price, a known GST position, and a simple payment term. It works well for a freelancer sending one service invoice, a small supplier billing a single order, or a business that already has the records needed to support the invoice.
A managed workflow is better when time entries, expenses, billable status, and client rates decide the amount. Everhour can keep billable and non-billable time separate through project billing status, task-level non-billable controls, custom task rates, and member-rate exceptions, then give admins reports for billable time, non-billable time, billable amount, and cost.

Yes. An Australian tax invoice can be sent by email if it contains the required tax invoice information. The document must clearly identify itself as a tax invoice and show the seller identity, ABN, issue date, supply details, price, GST details, and taxable extent. For totals of A$1,000 or more, it must also show the buyer's identity or ABN.
GST can appear as a separate amount, or the invoice can state that the total price includes GST when GST is exactly one-eleventh of the total price. A GST-registered supplier charges 10% GST on taxable supplies. The invoice should make the GST position clear enough for the buyer to claim credits where allowed.
The supplier's ABN should appear on the tax invoice. The ABN is an 11-digit identifier issued through the Australian Business Register. If the total payable is A$1,000 or more, the invoice must also show the buyer's identity or the buyer's ABN, so collect that detail before sending high-value invoices.
No. Australia uses the Peppol framework for eInvoicing, but ordinary businesses are not subject to a general national requirement to issue B2B invoices through Peppol. A standard emailed invoice remains acceptable for many B2B transactions, provided the invoice content meets the GST tax invoice rules that apply to the sale.
Use the due date from the contract, purchase order, or agreed invoice terms. Australia does not set one national B2B invoice payment term. Clear payment terms matter because the email message often gets separated from the attached invoice, so the due date should appear on the invoice itself.
Everhour lets admins set project billing status, mark specific tasks as non-billable, use custom task rates, and set member-rate exceptions. Admin reports can show billable time, non-billable time, billable amount, and cost, so the invoice total comes from the right work instead of every logged hour.
Everhour turns tracked billable time and expenses into invoices, with line items grouped by project, task, person, date, or other available breakdowns. After time is included in an invoice, Everhour marks it as invoiced so the same time does not appear again on a later client invoice.
Track billable work, exclude non-billable tasks, and keep invoice-ready totals organized by client. Everhour turns time records into clearer billing decisions and cleaner client invoices.
