Working time records for Hungarian teams

Create usable Hungarian time records

A useful Hungarian time record shows the work that happened, the person who performed it, and the timing needed for review. Hungarian Labour Code section 134 requires employers to record the duration of ordinary working time, extraordinary working time, standby duty, leave, and certain agreed voluntary overtime. The record also needs current start and end times for ordinary work, extraordinary work, and standby duty actually performed.

Teams use this record for more than payroll. A manager can compare planned hours against actual hours, separate client work from internal work, and review whether entries match schedules, leave, and standby duty. A bookkeeper can check premiums and time off against approved records instead of reconstructing a week from messages, calendars, and spreadsheet edits.

Fields every record needs

Each entry needs a worker, date, start time, end time, work category, project or cost center, and approval status. For project teams, task-level detail keeps client billing separate from payroll classification. For HR and accounting, ordinary working time, extraordinary working time, standby duty, and leave need distinct labels so totals do not blur paid absence, work actually performed, and overtime.

A clean weekly record also shows later corrections. Managers need to see missed entries, unusually long days, and changes after submission. Hungary's currency is the Hungarian forint, HUF, so billing exports and internal reports should keep local money fields separate from hours. The time record stays clearer when rates, invoice amounts, and payroll treatment sit in reports rather than inside free-text notes.

Local rules that change tracking

The general full daily working time under the Hungarian Labour Code is eight hours. Scheduled working time is generally capped at twelve hours per day and forty-eight hours per week, with overtime included in those limits. The employer may order up to 250 hours of extraordinary working time per calendar year, plus up to 150 additional voluntary overtime hours per year by written agreement with the employee.

Premium rules make category accuracy matter. Overtime beyond scheduled daily working time, a working-time frame, or a settlement period gives the employee a 50% wage supplement or equivalent time off if employment rules or an agreement allow it. Overtime on a weekly rest day or rest period carries a 100% premium, reduced to 50% if another weekly rest day or rest period is provided. Public holiday overtime carries a 100% premium.

Free totals or managed workflow

A one-off weekly total works for a freelancer, a small invoice check, or a short internal reconciliation. It breaks down when several employees enter time across projects, standby duty, leave, approvals, and client billing. Hungarian records also interact with GDPR safeguards because employee time records that identify workers are personal data, and workplace monitoring by technical means requires prior written notice under Hungarian Labour Code section 11/A.

Everhour Time Tracking fits the managed side of that work. Teams can log task and project hours with live timers or manual entries, then use those entries for timesheets, reports, budgets, invoicing, and payroll review. Admins can lock completed periods, send reminders, configure timer behavior, and approve timesheets before hours move into billing or payroll workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Hungary require employers to keep working-time records?

Yes. Hungarian Labour Code section 134 requires employers to keep records of ordinary working time, extraordinary working time, standby duty, leave, and certain agreed voluntary overtime. The record must show current start and end times for ordinary work, extraordinary work, and standby duty actually performed.

Which Hungarian time entries need start and end times?

Entries for ordinary work, extraordinary work, and standby duty actually performed need current start and end times. A duration-only total is weaker because it does not show whether the work crossed schedule limits, included standby, or created overtime review issues.

Do flexible schedules remove every Hungarian time-record duty?

No. The unbound work schedule exception applies when the employer transfers scheduling rights to the employee in writing because the employee independently organizes the work. In that case, many working-time rules and the record obligation for ordinary and extraordinary working time and standby do not apply.

Which mistake causes the most payroll risk in Hungary?

Mixing ordinary work, extraordinary work, standby duty, and leave into one generic hours bucket creates the biggest review problem. Hungary uses different treatment for overtime categories, including 50% and 100% premium situations, so payroll needs the category before it can review compensation correctly.

Can employee activity monitoring be added to time tracking in Hungary?

Yes, but Hungarian Labour Code section 11/A requires prior written notice before employers use technical means to check work-related conduct. Inspection of IT equipment is limited to work-related data. Identifiable time records also fall under GDPR requirements for lawful basis, transparency, data minimization, storage limitation, and security.

How does Everhour Time Tracking support Hungarian project hours?

Everhour Time Tracking lets users record task and project hours through live timers or manual entries. Those entries can feed timesheets, reports, budgets, invoicing, and payroll review, while admins manage reminders, locked periods, timer rules, and approvals before records move forward.

How can Everhour reports help managers review Hungarian hours?

Everhour Reporting turns logged time, budgets, costs, and project data into configurable reports. Managers can group by member, project, client, task, date range, billable time, labor costs, and invoice status, then export reports as CSV, Excel/XLSX, or PDF for review.

Track Hungarian work with approval

Track approved task and project hours before payroll or invoicing. Everhour gives teams timers, manual entries, admin controls, and timesheet approvals that support reliable billing and payroll review.
